# Heybop.com hackathon
This weekend we at [creatingstuff.io](http://creatingstuff.io) had a hackathon to build a music quiz. Heybop is a music quiz that you can use to play music quizzes locally with your friends, family, and alone. All you need is a Spotify account to be able to host your game, then you’re ready to play.

We started to work on it around lunch on Saturday. We started by mapping out what we needed to do on post-it notes and put them up on a kanban on a door.

When we were done with that it was time to code, we had actually prepared a design the day before so we could focus 100% on coding and developing.

After about 9 hours of code and a lot of coffee we had something that was kinda working, some bugs here and there but we could play our first round of the music quiz.

After that was complete we did some finishing touches, fixed the bugs we found, created a landing page, and then the hackathon was officially ended.

Now some days after we have read and found that in some cases trivia quizzes should not use Spotify API and therefore it is difficult to bring the product to a larger audience, or commercialize the product. We will contact someone at Spotify to see if that’s the case for this application too. If it is, we will have to change the way we currently are playing songs.

Super fun experience with this hackathon and we will definitely create more of them, we live-streamed this hackathon but we had zero viewers so didn’t get much out of it this time. In the future, we will announce in beforehand of the hackathon and hopefully someone will watch us build stuff. Now, Heybop is not completed and we will keep on working on it, so contact us if you got any feedback or feature requests!

Hey, we are Andreas Samuelsson and Elias Juremalm and we are the creators of [creatingstuff.io](http://creatingstuff.io/). & Cabinetio. We are two engineers from Sweden that really enjoy creating stuff that solves problems either we have or other people have.

Cabinetio is an application that acts as a digital cicerone (beer recommender). Cabinetio helps you find new beers based on previous beers you’ve liked. We provide the user with three different recommendation categories; what they should like based on taste and beer style, what they could like based on taste but with a different beer style, and challenging beers that are not like the usual beer style the user likes.

Currently, Cabinetio is in Swedish since the beer data and information we used come in Swedish.

## Why did we build Cabinetio?

It can be hard to find new beers that you would probably like and many people do not have the time or energy to research what kind of beers they like. Instead they fall back on their default beer and stay with that. With Cabinetio these people can easily discover new products by liking and disliking beers and get a recommendation based on those.

## How did we build Cabinetio?

Cabinetio is built up by an API and a front-end client. The front-end client is built with React, Next.js, Typescript. For styling, Tailwindcss is used. Our backend is running a Neo4J database that we integrate using our API built with Python.

We started building this app at the end of December 2021 and we’ve had some great progress since.

## Reflection

Developing this product was not that hard since we both have experience with the tech stack and we both had a clear image of what we were going to build. Something we need to do now however is to validate the product and test it with users. Usually, this is the key for a product but we wanted to create our MVP in code to make it useful and then validate (mostly because we wanted to use this product). So we have at least two happy users 😄

Cabinetio has been a really fun project to work on and we hope to be able to work more on it in the future to be able to add features such as being able to do the same with wines. We had some great flow during this project and it was really fun to work on!

# Reciprepp - Meal planning and shopping list generator

[Reciprepp]("https://reciprepp.com") is a meal planning and shopping list generator application. With Reciprepp you can generate recipe collections for any number of days based on preferences and categories. When you’ve chosen your desired recipes you get a shopping list based on the groceries needed for your recipes. You can easily add items to the shopping list, and share them if you’re not shopping alone, with your partner for example. Apart from our recipe generator, you have the choice of choosing from curated recipe collections, saved recipes, or recipes you’ve added yourself.

Currently, Reciprepp is launched in Sweden and we only offer Swedish recipes. Our target group is households that want to spend less time planning what to buy and cook.

We started building Reciprepp because we wanted to spend less time planning meals ourselves. A lot of households including both of ours have a default set of recipes that we very often fall back on because we do not have the energy or time to find new ones. We wanted to create something that lets you find recipes suited for your needs as well as have the opportunity to be flexible.

Something we find interesting is how comfortable we’ve become since we started using Reciprepp ourselves. It really improves how we eat and every day feels a little bit exciting to try something new (sometimes we select the same recipes because they were too darn good). Shopping with Reciprepp’s shopping list also makes going grocery shopping a little bit fun. With the sorted shopping list based on existing store sections, you don’t have to be running around the whole store, you can check the sections, and you’ll feel super effective.
